My first reaction when I saw Nintendo’s 3DS Slide Pad Expansion was disbelief. There was no doubt in my mind the system should have always had a second analog stick, but this as a solution? This seemed to be the worst way possible to do it. A clunky cradle that adds significant bulk to an already so-so system design? Not so hot. Today, however, my opinion is changing a bit. I’ve had time to hold the device in my hands. Honestly, it’s not that bad.

During a Tokyo Game Show keynote this morning, President of Sony’s Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, demonstrated some of the PlayStation Vita’s augmented reality features. This information came via two trailers, as well as a live demonstration conducted by Yoshida himself.

The Super Smash Bros. series has made appearances on the Nintendo 64, GameCube, and Wii, but Nintendo hasn’t yet brought it to a portable system. Nintendo fan Dan Fornace took matters into his own hands and made Super Smash Land for Game Boy. Sort of. It definitely looks like a Game Boy game, but you play it on your PC. Check out the launch trailer:
Super Smash Land is available to download for free. No online multiplayer, though.

At this year’s E3 press conference, Nintendo dropped the exciting news that The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords would be released sometime this year as a free download in celebration of the franchise’s 25th Anniversary. Rounding out Square Enix’s PS Vita launch lineup in Japan is Lord of Apocalypse, a title first announced in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine.
The game, based off Square’s Lord of Vermilion line of arcade-based collectible card games, is being developed in tandem for both the Vita and the regular PSP. Unlike Vermilion, Apocalypse is an action RPG, starring a fully-customizable hero fighting in realtime with a few computer-controlled allies.
