Pokemon Rumble Blast Review

Pokemon Rumble Blast marks the very first Pokemon-branded title created for the 3DS. Pokemaniacs like myself have eagerly awaited the opportunity to see our favorite monsters rendered in full, stereoscopic 3D pretty much since we first heard about Nintendo’s newest handheld. But while the game does have its charms, unfortunately the efforts of developer Ambrella just didn’t end up warranting a full retail release. Pokemon Rumble Blast – Video Review A sequel to 2009’s WiiWare...

Spider-Man: Edge of Time 3DS Review

Posted by on Oct 24, 2011 | Leave a Comment

As a follow-up of sorts to last year’s Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, developer Beenox brings us another dose of web-slinging action in the form of Spider-Man: Edge of Time for the Wii and 3DS. Though the game has some things going for it, it ultimately doesn’t live up to its predecessor. If you’re looking for the definitive Spider-Man experience, it seems you’re going to have to hold out for a radioactive spider bite. Like most Spider-Man titles, Edge of Time largely...

DS Game: Aliens: Infestation

Few licensed games are able to capture what makes the license great in the first place. They usually get the look and feel right, but usually fail to “get it” when it comes to what makes the franchise what it is. Aliens: Infestation “gets it.” Although the Aliens license lends itself well to alien-blasting mayhem, shooting waves of enemies isn’t the point. It’s the tension created by knowing a sleek, black Xenomorph could be anywhere. The result is a great mix...

The PlayStation Vita Is Set to Succeed

It may not come as much of a surprise coming from one of IGN’s PlayStation editors, but my excitement for the PlayStation Vita is palpable. I’ve played Sony’s upcoming handheld on numerous occasions since it was revealed and have had hands-on time with a plethora of games. And while I acknowledge that Sony has stumbled quite a few times during the PSP and PS3’s lifecycle, things appear to be different this time around. Sony’s emphasis seems to be on all the right things,...

Hypocrisy’s a Pleasure in Diamond Trust of London

One of the unique qualities of human beings is their ability to be hypocrites. With the coming of sapience to our homo forerunners we gained a remarkable ability to say one thing while doing the complete opposite. Jason Rohrer’s Diamond Trust of London, a turn-based strategy game for the Nintendo DS, gives a pinhole view of this quality, drawing out the contradictory desires of wanting to be moral while at the same time hoping to be competitively productive. Neither trumps the other and both...

Tanooki Tail The Tanooki tail is activated once and can be used continuously for a short period, much like the Golden Mushroom in previous Mario Kart games. Nintendo has revealed several new components of Mario Kart 7’s online functionality. Online matches will support between two to eight racers (at 60 fps), and players will have the option of playing with friends from their 3DS friend list, random opponents from around the world or rivals (racers the player has already competed against). Opponents will be able to send each other select, pre-programmed phrases during races, though the specifics on this have yet to be revealed. Nintendo will also...

The Best Vita Games We Just Saw, Take Two

Posted by on Oct 21, 2011 | Leave a Comment

Back in early October, IGN’s PlayStation Team got their hands on eight Vita games in one day. We were so overwhelmed by the experience that we decided to go ahead and rank them from the one we were least excited about all the way up to the one we were most excited about. The method in which we did so was simple. IGN PlayStation is made up of three editors — Greg Miller, Colin Moriarty and Ryan Clements — and the overall rankings were an average of how each individual...
