When Nintendo revealed New Super Mario Bros. 2 (NSMB2) late last week, many noticed the company classified the game as both a traditional retail offering as well as an eShop game. Today global president Satoru Iwata offered some clarification, revealing that the game would not only be available through traditional outlets as a packaged game, but as a digital download as well.

Last night Nintendo’s global firmware update went live, allowing 3DS owners to create and label folders on their systems, as well as allowing for game patches. If you haven’t already done so, all you need to do to update your system is go into System Settings, click “Other Settings” and scroll all the way to page four. The recent Nintendo Direct conference brought with it a handful of cool announcements, from an updated Pokedex 3D and Pokemon AR shooter to a Kirby 20th anniversary campaign to a new global 3DS firmware update. Probably the biggest news was when company president Satoru Iwata let loose some information about that mysterious 2D Mario game coming to 3DS this year.

3DS StreetPass fans no doubt noticed the arrival of a new Puzzle Swap panel over the weekend. The new panel, pictured below, is for Mario Tennis Open.
Get StreetPassing, folks.This new panel came with a complimentary puzzle piece, as well as the announcement that Nintendo will now be distributing new panels via SpotPass (they previosuly only arrived via firmware updates).

Nintendo has finally announced a release window for Animal Crossing 3DS. While there’s still no global release information, the game will arrive in Japan this Fall. The news came from the recent Nintendo Direct broadcast hosted by company president Satoru Iwata.
In other Nintendo Direct news, the company will be honoring Kirby’s 20th year of existence with an anniversary campaign, at least in Japan. Celebrations will include the Japanese release of 3D Classics: Kirby’s Adventure...

During the recent Nintendo Direct broadcast, company president Satoru Iwata announced that Nintendo is preparing to release a global firmware update for the 3DS on April 25.
The new firmware will add patch support, as well as the ability to create and label folders on the 3DS home screen. This means OCD gamers (like myself!) can finally have dedicated folders for NES games, Game Boy games, 3DSWare and so on.
