Welcome, dear readers, to IGN Nintendo’s first monthly round-up of all the hottest 3DS eShop games. Although things were slow on the Virtual Console side of things (Read: we didn’t get any retro goodies at all), there were several 3DS originals certainly worth talking about. New Super Mario Bros. 2 Can Be Downloaded

When Nintendo revealed New Super Mario Bros. 2 (NSMB2) late last week, many noticed the company classified the game as both a traditional retail offering as well as an eShop game. Today global president Satoru Iwata offered some clarification, revealing that the game would not only be available through traditional outlets as a packaged game, but as a digital download as well. Nintendo plans to allow consumers to purchase NSMB2 in a traditional boxed form, or in a downloadable, eShop-based format... 

3DS Folders Have Arrived!

Last night Nintendo’s global firmware update went live, allowing 3DS owners to create and label folders on their systems, as well as allowing for game patches. If you haven’t already done so, all you need to do to update your system is go into System Settings, click “Other Settings” and scroll all the way to page four. Click on “System Update,” follow the instructions and you’ll be good to go! You’ll also be prompted to update if you try to enter the... 

Nintendo of America Registers Fire Emblem Domain

Following the recent Japanese release of Fire Emblem: Awakening – and the continued lack of news as to a U.S. version – it was starting to look pretty grim for stateside fans of this epic strategy RPG series. Darkrai Pokemon Character Distribution This May

The Pitch-Black Pokemon will be haunting your dreams soon, thanks to a character distribution beginning next month. Starting May 9, Pokemon Black and Pokemon White players will be able to get their hands on the elusive Darkrai. Darkrai wants YOU!To acquire Darkrai, all you’ll need is a copy of Pokemon Black or White and access to a wireless Internet connection. You also have to have fewer than 11 wonder cards. In other words, if you have 11 wonder cards in your game – which you get automatically... 

Pokemon Art Exhibit Celebrates the Original 151

What happens when you take 151 talented artists and task each of them with creating their own interpretation of one of the original 151 Pokemon? The Pokemon Battle Royale art exhibit, that’s what. From Bulbasaur to Mew, each of these monsters was on display at the Light Grey Art Gallery in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The recent Nintendo Direct conference brought with it a handful of cool announcements, from an updated Pokedex 3D and Pokemon AR shooter to a Kirby 20th anniversary campaign to a new global 3DS firmware update. Probably the biggest news was when company president Satoru Iwata let loose some information about that mysterious 2D Mario game coming to 3DS this year. Turns out this title is actually New Super Mario Bros. 2, a 3DS sequel to the original New Super Mario Bros. for DS. Little was revealed... 

3DS Owners Get New Puzzle Panel Via SpotPass

3DS StreetPass fans no doubt noticed the arrival of a new Puzzle Swap panel over the weekend. The new panel, pictured below, is for Mario Tennis Open. Get StreetPassing, folks.This new panel came with a complimentary puzzle piece, as well as the announcement that Nintendo will now be distributing new panels via SpotPass (they previosuly only arrived via firmware updates). Animal Crossing 3DS, Kirby Anniversary Updates

Nintendo has finally announced a release window for Animal Crossing 3DS. While there’s still no global release information, the game will arrive in Japan this Fall. The news came from the recent Nintendo Direct broadcast hosted by company president Satoru Iwata. In other Nintendo Direct news, the company will be honoring Kirby’s 20th year of existence with an anniversary campaign, at least in Japan. Celebrations will include the Japanese release of 3D Classics: Kirby’s Adventure... 

Nintendo 3DS Firmware Update Coming April 25

During the recent Nintendo Direct broadcast, company president Satoru Iwata announced that Nintendo is preparing to release a global firmware update for the 3DS on April 25. The new firmware will add patch support, as well as the ability to create and label folders on the 3DS home screen. This means OCD gamers (like myself!) can finally have dedicated folders for NES games, Game Boy games, 3DSWare and so on. Each folder will be able to hold up to 60 items, and the first letter of whatever you name...
