Whenever a side-scrolling platformer
hops onto the Nintendo DS, it faces one inevitable conundrum: How can the game
take advantage of the touch screen? This technology has the capacity to simulate
a direct interaction with a character on the screen, model the physical
properties of inanimate objects, or simply free draw on a digital canvas.
WireWay effectively captures the visceral joy of a slingshot using the touch
screen, only it’s the main character who gets flung all over the place.

As you know, the DSi is a big step
up from the previous DS versions. The active camera is more than a gimmick and
the potential has firmly been shoved in front of us with this title. Using the
camera to manipulate the actual environment you are occupying is an interesting
idea. Forcing the player to move around in order to hunt down enemies is a new
and exciting prospect and today’s game can always hold its head up high as the
first title released in the U.S. to pioneer this new gameplay.
System...

When Jam Sessions made its debut
several years ago, guitar enthusiasts were thrilled by its authenticity as a
musical instrument simulator. Obviously nothing can fully replicate the form and
functionality of an actual guitar, but Jam Sessions did an impressive job for a
DS title. Jam Sessions 2 attempts to build upon this success, expanding into new
gameplay modes and offering a somewhat more accessible package – though the
results may disappoint some of its core audience.
Anyone unfamiliar...

The classic puzzle game known as
“tangrams” finds its roots in ancient China. The player must use seven geometric
tiles to form the final product, which is shown as a silhouette. This silhouette
might resemble anything from a dragon to a tiger; it may take some imagination
to see these figures within each angular mass. Fortunately, this DS incarnation
properly conveys the identity of each silhouette, which effectively predisposes
the player to “see” the subject within the...

I
first became enamored of casual games when I received Cake Mania to review for
the DS. I had so much fun with that game, and I’m still playing it from time to
time. It’s a quick-paced game, but not frustrating. The interface works well
with the DS, and the different customers and upgrades add variety to the
gameplay.
Diner
Dash is also a favorite of mine, but up to now I’ve only played it on the
computer. Diner Dash Flo on the Go has been ported to the DS, and so I’ve gotten
a...

So here we
are again, a puzzle game for the DS. Yes, I know, with its unique abilities, the
puzzle genre has not only found a home on the DS, it has set up shop, planted
trees, grown a farm, had children, weathered a recession and gone on to its
third version of the system. So what I am saying is that if you are a game
developer out there and your specialty is puzzle-style games, chances are you
are developing your title for the DS.
And here is
our first major problem: the mere fact that this...

I have to admit that when I heard an Assassin’s Creed game was going to be
released on the Nintendo DS I felt skeptical that it would be true to the series
or that it wouldn’t even come close to mimicking the stealth-action game.
Assassin’s Creed II: Discovery not only a game that does stealth and action well
but it is also the perfect companion piece to one of this year’s most excellent
sequels.
Considered an untold chapter in the Assassin’s Creed II storyline,...

I love
Christmas. I look forward every year to the season, and spend a lot of time
decorating, watching Christmas movies, listening to Christmas music, and baking.
I was happy to receive the DS game, A Christmas Carol, to review, even though I
have not really wanted to see the new movie.
A Christmas
Carol is based on the Disney movie of the same name, but as I haven’t seen the
movie, I can’t really say how close the game is to the movie. The game does seem
to try to capture the same...

So, you have
seen the puzzle before, two pictures, side by side, but one is the original and
the other has "X" amount of differences that you must identify. I have seen them
in the newspaper, in magazines, kids; activity books, the cheesy touch-screen
game at the local watering hole and who knows where else. It is a tried-and-true
puzzle that I have never seen (until now) on the DS.
Ok, so Foto
Frenzy is just that, a game where you see a picture on the top screen and you
must tap the differences...

After more than
10 years with only basic (15 channels) cable, my husband recently got his wish
and installed DirectTV with ESPN. My daughter then introduced me to a show
called "Bridezillas." Not a theme I ever thought I would find amusing, but I kinda like it. Maybe it’s because my daughters are at the marrying age now?
Anyway, Wedding Dash for the DS is also amusing me, and I’m having quite a bit
of fun with it.
Wedding Dash is
a spin-off from the popular Diner Dash....
