Wii U: Downloadable Retail Software at Launch

Nintendo plans on pushing Wii U into bold new digital territory for a console. In an investor’s conference today, global president Satoru Iwata revealed his company plans to allow consumers the ability to purchase Wii U software either in a traditional, packaged form or as a digital download. When Nintendo revealed New Super Mario Bros. 2 (NSMB2) late last week, many noticed the company classified the game as both a traditional retail offering as well as an eShop game. Those expecting Nintendo to fully reveal its full Wii U launch plans at E3 2012 will need to wait a bit longer. Today, in an investor’s briefing, global president Satoru Iwata noted that his company does not plan on revealing pricing plans or precise launch dates for the new HD system at the annual show. Nintendo continues to lose incredible sums of money, even as the company’s new portable dominates the Japanese market and its reported losses were less than its previous estimates. It looks like Dragon Quest X: Waking of the Five Tribes Online will be hitting Japan sooner than expected. As reported by Andriasang, Square Enix announced the Wii version of the game will be released on August 2. This new title marks the first MMORPG entry in the series. 3DS Folders Have Arrived!

Last night Nintendo’s global firmware update went live, allowing 3DS owners to create and label folders on their systems, as well as allowing for game patches. If you haven’t already done so, all you need to do to update your system is go into System Settings, click “Other Settings” and scroll all the way to page four.
