Satoru Iwata has a headache and it’s a triple-Tylenol zinger. Wii U will almost certainly be priced as Nintendo’s most expensive product launch ever. Although the price has not been announced, most commentators – including IGN – believe it will come in at a minimum of $299, possibly even more. Nintendo Preparing for Third Party Digital Downloads

Nintendo has confirmed to IGN that it plans to support both third and first party content for its new digital initiative. Late last week the publisher revealed that, starting this August with New Super Mario Bros. 2, all self-published games will be available on launch day in digital and packaged forms. This plan applies to both the 3DS and Wii U. “We are currently preparing a program for third parties but have nothing specific to announce at this time,” a Nintendo representative told...

UPDATE: Nintendo Confirms Midnight Purple 3DS

UPDATE: Nintendo has officially confirmed that the 3DS family will be welcoming a new color in just a handful of weeks. On May 20, the new Midnight Purple 3DS will go on sale in the States, joining the ranks of the Aqua Blue, Cosmo Black, Flame Red and Pearl Pink models. This new 3DS will sale for $169.99, the same price as the other models. It will be available for purchase the same day as the 3DS title Mario Tennis Open. Retailer Lists ’Midnight Purple’ 3DS

Technically we’ve known Nintendo has had its eyes on a purple 3DS for almost two years now. When the publisher unveiled the portable back at E3 2010, it displayed a number of conceptual color variations, including red, teal, orange and purple. (Two of those have now made it to stores.) Last night Nintendo strongly signaled its intent to push both its portable and home console efforts into the modern era.
