Burn Jita Didn’t Ruin Eve Online’s Economy

Posted by on Apr 30, 2012 | Leave a Comment

Good job, GoonSwarm. You guys gave us a very entertaining few days of burning and pillaging the Jita trade hub in Eve Online. Many ships were destroyed, much ISK was lost to the abyss. According to some graphs over at Eve News24, it looks as if the grand Burn Jita attack over the weekend certainly had an effect on the economy, but it doesn’t seem it was as catastrophic as many were hoping. Granted, Eve’s economy is hyper complicated and almost as hard to comprehend as the real-life global...

Shadowrun Returns Kickstarter a $1.8 M Success

If you’re a game developer with a notable portfolio, Kickstarter is your genie in a bottle. Jordan Weisman is the latest designer to make a crowdsourced wish, and he’s walking away with the budget to create Shadowrun Returns. The latest in a string of wildly successful videogame Kickstarters is complete, and after seeking $400,000 for a new Shadowrun, Weisman received more than $1.8 million. “A-freaking-mazing! Wowsers! Bibbidy-bobbidy-boo!” Weisman et al wrote on the official...

Diablo 3 Commercial Hits TV

Two weeks. We’ve got just over two weeks before Blizzard opens the gates of hell for Diablo 3. Seems surreal, doesn’t it? I think back to where I was and what I was doing in my life nearly 12 years ago when I clickity-clicked countless hours away in Diablo 2. Feels like everything has changed since then. Everything and more. And yet here comes Diablo 3 — Barbarian, demons, loot and all — sauntering in like a character from a Neal Gaiman novel untouched by Father Time. The...

Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Dungeon Siege 3 75% Off This Week on Amazon

Posted by on Apr 29, 2012 | Leave a Comment

Amazon continues its campaign to get you to buy everything you could ever want from its website by offering two quality games for 75% off. Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Dungeon Siege 3 have had their prices cut drastically for the next week. I’m not the biggest fan of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, but pretty much the entire rest of the world was super stoked on it, so chances are it’ll be more than worth your $7. For a mere buck more, you can pick up the Augmented Edition, which comes with...

Animator Working on Portal Short

Posted by on Apr 29, 2012 | Leave a Comment

Lookin’ good, Chell! Animator Alex Zembe, who has done work on the Uncharted series, has begun creating a short entitled Companionship_ based on the Portal series. Taking obvious cues from Pixar, it looks to follow Chell and the beloved Companion Cube, at least based on the few screenshots he’s released. Considering this is a passion project that Zembe is working on during his free time, it looks pretty awesome. The character designs are stylish and full of life, which is interesting,...

Nvidia Announces the Crazy-Fast GTX 690 Dual-GPU Graphics Card – for $1,000

Posted by on Apr 29, 2012 | Leave a Comment

The idea of a $1,000 graphics card sounds fairly insane. Arguably, it’s spectacles like the new GeForce GTX 690 that give people the idea that PC gaming is prohibitively expensive. But at the same time, it is kind of awesome when Nvidia unveils a brand new dual-GPU card that blows everything else out of the water. Think of this as a glimpse a year or two into the future, when this level of performance will come down to a price that’s within the reach of non-lotto winners. According to...

Telltale Games Release Audio Fix for The Walking Dead

Posted by on Apr 29, 2012 | Leave a Comment

I hate it when my zombies sound terrible. I love that gargling sound that they make and want to hear every last groan as they rip apart whatever flesh they’ve managed to find. Okay, that’s gross. Sorry about that. What I’m trying to say is that Telltale Games has fixed the poor audio quality in their adventure game adaptation of The Walking Dead. Previously, the audio was compressed poorly, causing a lot of the dialogue to sound, well, like crap. You know that little crackling...

Guild Wars 2 Digital Sales Continue

Posted by on Apr 29, 2012 | Leave a Comment

After stopping sales of digital copies of Guild Wars 2 on Friday to limit the number of testers in the ongoing beta weekend, ArenaNet has reopened its proverbial doors. If you were shut out of the first beta weekend event because you didn’t pre-purchase in time, you’ve still got a few hours to run around Tyria today. Posting on Twitter, ArenaNet announced that it has increased capacity for the beta weekend and resumed selling digital copies of Guild Wars 2 — copies that come with...

Skyrim DLC Info Found in Patch Files

Posted by on Apr 28, 2012 | Leave a Comment

Sometimes finding information on upcoming content is like a scavenger hunt. You’ve got to dig around, check in creative locations, and, most importantly, show off what you found to your buddies and laugh about how clever you are. Bethesda forum user Karellan did just that, finding some hints of what could be coming in Skyrim’s first bit of DLC, including snow elves, crossbows, new vampire animations, and something only referenced as “RF.” There’s a good shot that we’ll...

Survarium Detailed in Developer Q&A

Posted by on Apr 28, 2012 | Leave a Comment

I know they probably didn’t mean to come off this way, but I love how sassy Vostok Games’ answers sounded in their Facebook Q&A session about Survarium. The straight up, no nonsense responses lend themselves really well to my mental image of them as a group of guys who want everyone to shut up so they can get back to developing their game. Read the post and tell me I’m wrong. Go ahead, I’ll wait. Getting past the teenage angst, there’s some really interesting info...
