EA to Piggyback Origin on Popular Kickstarter Games

As Electronic Arts continues to work toward having Origin reach feature parity with Steam — and hopefully finding something unique it can offer in the process — it also is focused on getting the software installed on as many computers as possible. Bundling it with EA’s own computer games has proven to be one effective way of doing this, whether it be with Battlefield 3 or Mass Effect 3, as has exclusively offering the digital version of its big MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic,...

Elder Scrolls Online: The Single-Player MMO?

What does being a “hero” mean, anyway? I admire people who work at cat shelters, people who work towards a cure for cancer, hey, even the people who craft intriguing experiences for us in our gaming existences – the term can be applied any which way. I’m not sure I agree with The Elder Scrolls Online’s idea of a “hero,” though. In a video interview with GameInformer, director Matt Firor worryingly states that TESO’s main story will make players feel...

Oh, how the angelic have fallen… right into a life of domestic pleasantries. Those tired of taking to the skies can now clip their wings and settle down thanks to Aion’s latest changes to its in-game housing feature. VG24/7 reveals the details on these new Aion housing changes. For one thing, everybody gets an apartment now – free of charge (unless you consider having to quest a form of payment, but let’s just say I’d happily quest-grind if it meant my real-life rent...

Using class-specific abilities to bypass obstacles. Ladders. Male characters moaning about female characters. These are just some of the thrilling features that didn’t make it into the final build of Diablo 3, and now they’ve been revealed to us in a video labeled “Missing Content.” YouTube user AlluvianGarald has cobbled together this visual list of the features that Blizzard had previously showed off in the past, but didn’t make it to that ARPG that you’re probably...

Diablo III’s Launch Issues Bring its Always-Online Requirement Back to the Forefront

Posted by on May 18, 2012 | Leave a Comment

While it could have gone worse, Diablo III’s first few days of availability have been plagued with a variety of issues. There were problem logging in including the dreaded Error 37, and similar sorts of issues have continued to crop up since then, leading to several instances of the servers being taken offline. This has all been widespread enough that Blizzard apologized for the situation, but really, these sorts of problems are to be expected following the release of an enormously popular...

Origin Pledges Support For Crowd-Funded Games

“There’s no market for nostalgia,” they said. “No one will ever publish your quirky point-and-click adventure,” they said. But boy, Tim Schafer sure showed them… and now they are kind of listening. Those squillions of dollars you all sink into Kickstarter campaigns has made EA realize the potential of fan favorites, and now they’re waiving Origin’s distribution fees on successfully crowd-funded games. EA is offering 90 days of free distribution on...

Ubisoft: No Far Cry 3 Multiplayer Beta on PC

Posted by on May 18, 2012 | Leave a Comment

Like me, you may have taken interest in the announcement from Ubisoft yesterday that it will open the Far Cry 3 multiplayer beta this summer. You also might have noticed that the announcement lacked mention of a PC version. A simple oversight? I contacted Ubisoft for clarification and received the bad news that I’ll pass along to you: there are no plans for a Far Cry 3 beta on PC. Freedom. That’s what I remember most fondly about Far Cry, the franchise that got Crytek and its CryEngine...

Start saving your pocket change, a number of independent developers have banded together for a massive indie games sale on Steam next week. Because We May (looks like the less grammatically awkward Because We Can was already taken) is a just launched initiative for independent developers to promote and sell their games at whatever price they see fit. And beginning on May 24, they’ll be selling more than 40 indie gems at deep discounts on Steam. “We believe that developers should have...

Rumor: Battlefield 3 Premium Coming in June

Posted by on May 18, 2012 | Leave a Comment

Sigh. Battlefield 3 is not only ditching the massive maps and vehicles that define the franchise in the upcoming Close Quarters map pack, er, sorry, Close Quarters “expansion,” it appears Electronic Arts is once again following in Activision’s footsteps with a premium, paid, Call of Duty Elite-like Battlefield 3 service. Following up on its rumor report, fan site Battlefieldo claims it has received confirmation Battlefield 3 Premium is real and set for launch on June 4. Electronic...

In its never-ending quest to produce more games than I can possibly keep track of without the assistance of a spreadsheet, Paradox is now talking Starvoid.
