Mortal Kombat Trailer is Director’s Pitch for MK Film

Mortal Kombat logoSo that mysterious live-action Mortal Kombat trailer that appeared on YouTube yesterday? Nope, it’s not Warner Bros.’s odd way of teasing a new Mortal Kombat game. It’s actually a director’s odd way of pitching Warner Bros. on his idea for a new Mortal Kombat film.

Actress Jeri Ryan, who portrayed Sonya Blade in the trailer, explained the point of it all on her Twitter account: “Okay, so… Mortal Kombat,” she begins. “It’s not a game trailer. Actually was made for the director to sell WB on his vision for a reimagined MK film. I did it as a favor to a friend. No idea yet what WB’s reaction to it was.”

So for anyone who was hoping this was heralding a new Mortal Kombat game announcement at E3…well, who knows what Warner Bros. is planning, so an announcement may still happen anyway. But this trailer has absolutely nothing to do with the game series. You can check out the (at times rather gruesome) trailer in question below:
