It’s nearly the very end for Bungie’s involvement with the Halo franchise. In a post on Bungie.net, the company confirmed yesterday that it would be transitioning all Halo services from their website to 343 Industries by the end of next month. By March 31, Bungie will no longer update stats or service records, host user generated content, or operate Bungie Pro through Bungie.net.
Going forward, all future Halo support will be offered by Microsoft and 343 Industries through Halo Waypoint....

A new Halo 4 reveal may be coming later this month. Finnish magazine Pelaaja is reporting that Microsoft will hold a Spring Showcase on February 29th and that a Halo 4 reveal is coming.

For now, nothing has been confirmed and this can only be taken as a rumor. Microsoft does typically hold a Spring Showcase in San Francisco ahead of the Game Developer’s Conference, and this year’s has already been announced, though Halo 4 hasn’t been mentioned...

Microsoft revealed long ago that its internal studio 343 Industries would be taking the reins on the Halo franchise from Bungie Studios now that the franchise creator is an independent operator. The handover isn’t as simple as signing a few papers and getting the locks changed, however. The transfer of Halo user data from Bungie to 343 started last summer, and Bungie now confirms that the process will be finished on March 31 of this year.
What does this mean in practical terms? A Bungie blog...

In the past few days, two more games joined the long list of those using some sort of online pass. Since Electronic Arts introduced the concept in 2010 with Project $10, more and more publishers have adopted the practice of locking out certain features for those who purchase used games. Many feel it’s unfair, but I’m not so sure that’s really the case.
Many gamers consider online passes yet another way they’re being shafted this generation. Like downloadable content, it’s...

In the past year or so it’s become very common for new games to include an "Online Pass" inside the box. This code will unlock certain aspects of the game like multiplayer, co-op levels, or future downloadable content. It’s pretty obvious that publishers have done this to encourage gamers to buy new games rather than used ones, but Sessler doesn’t think it’s the best idea. In this week’s Soapbox, Adam explains the flaws he sees in this new business model and...

Capcom announced today that it plans to release Dragon’s Dogma on May 22, and the package will include a download code for a Resident Evil 6 demo. Fans will be able to download the demo from Xbox Live on July 3, while PS3 owners will have to wait until September 4.
Other publishers have found that tying an anticipated demo or beta to an unanticipated game boosts sales of both. The original Zone of the Enders did quite well thanks to the on-disc inclusion of the Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of...

38 Studios boss Curt Schilling has defended Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning’s online pass. The pass will unlock the House of Valor faction quest for customers who purchase a new copy of the game, while those with used copies will need to buy the quest separately. While the pass has drawn criticism for blocking single-player content, Schilling has spoken out, defending the decision to include it.
In a post on Amalur’s official forums, Schilling writes that the content is simply day-one downloadable...

Microsoft France says the next Xbox will not be coming in 2012. French marketing director Cedrick Delmas says that despite several rumors about the system, it won’t be released this year.
“We’re in an industry that talks a lot, that likes telling stories,” Delmas told French site Lepoint.fr. “I am not convinced that things will happen this year. The Xbox 360’s cycle is not over at all. The proof is that we haven’t price cut this year. Afterward, what will...

In spite of rumors posted endlessly by internet video game news outlets (like ours), according to Cedrick Delmax, marketing director of Microsoft France, there won’t be a new Xbox released in 2012.
In an interview with French media outlet Lepoint.Fr, Delmax said:
“We’re in an industry that talks a lot, that likes to tell stories. I am not convinced things will happen this year. Xbox 360′s cycle is not at all finished. The proof is that we don’t see the logic in cutting...
