Xbox 360 Game News: Microsoft Announces $99 Xbox 360

Microsoft has made its $99 Xbox official. The 360 with Kinect and a 4GB HD is available in Microsoft stores, and is only sold with a 2-year commitment to Xbox Live at $14.99 a month. Check it out on the official Microsoft site. Print the coupon and stop by a Microsoft store for the cheapest ever Xbox. My question: is this kind of subsidized console going to catch on? We did the math, and the ultimate savings over traditional Xbox ownership is about $39 over two years, but the $15-a-month version...

What Makes a Game Worth Buying at Launch?

Posted by on May 04, 2012 | Leave a Comment

Gaming can be an expensive hobby, particularly if you’re keen on picking up games as they are released. With your typical console game going for $60 at launch and there being no shortage of quality titles to play, those costs can quickly add up, making it difficult to keep up with the latest releases. But there are more factors than merely price which can make gamers hesitant to buy games when they first come out including a perceived lack of value, eventual complete/Game of the Year edition...

UPDATE: We’ve got some official word from Activision on this. A PR rep told G4, "Stay tuned on this. We will have more news for you shortly." I’d say that this at the very least confirms that the product listings are accurate. ORIGINAL POST: What is Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse? According to Amazon (via Joystiq), it’s a console game that is coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 25, 2012. Other than the release date and some placeholder art, the...

Suda51 Hopes to Find Fans in a New Genre With Lollipop Chainsaw

Posted by on May 03, 2012 | Leave a Comment

The plight hovering over the crazy, over-the-top antics of any Suda51 title has been the developer’s inability to find a reasonably large audience willing to support his creations wholeheartedly. With last June’s EA-backed Shadows of the Damned, the shooter crowd proved less-than-keen about going to Hell to save the hero’s girlfriend, even if critics claimed it may be the best game the studio ever produced (1UP didn’t, admittedly). Realistically, EA never expected the title...

Could Next-Gen Consoles Cost $99?

Posted by on May 03, 2012 | Leave a Comment

Is $99 a good deal for an Xbox 360? Well, maybe. If you don’t have a credit card and you don’t mind paying extra for the console over a contracted two-year period. The bigger question perhaps, is this – could the idea of selling consoles cheap, then having consumers pay over fixed-contract periods be a Trojan horse for a coming next-gen strategy? It allows the hardware manufacturer to disguise the price of the hardware by bundling with an expensive service offering.Certainly,...

Xbox 360 Game News: Microsoft Pulls The Plug On Inside Xbox

Posted by on May 03, 2012 | Leave a Comment

Microsoft confirms the production will cease on the Inside Xbox video series, which brought a range of original programming to Xbox Live. That means no more Major’s Minute, no more Insider Moves, no more anything under that Inside Xbox brand. A Major Nelson blog post confirms the news that the programming will no longer be available in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The reasoning behind the move is only vaguely referenced. "At Xbox, we are focused on making entertainment...
