Today a special package with a bubblegum pink ribbon arrived here at the IGN offices. Inside we found our review copy of Kirby’s Return to Dreamland, Kirby’s upcoming adventure for the Wii. Hurray! Hidden inside the package, tucked beneath a mountain of blue confetti, we also found a Kirby cake pop. Yummy! We quickly freed the poor little puffball, so he could go on one last epic adventure before disappearing into the eternal Dreamland in our tummies. Our little Kirby lived it...

Nintendo’s Missed Opportunities

Posted by on Oct 12, 2011 | Leave a Comment

Recent criticisms of Nintendo aren’t entirely fair. The company is often accused of being out of touch, but that’s a reputation it doesn’t necessarily deserve. As the industry continues to evolve, Nintendo has been slow to adopt new business models, but that indicates caution, not a lack of awareness. The company often knows exactly where it’s lacking, but carefully considers how to proceed before it actually takes any action. Many gamers misconstrue this caution as a lack...

Zelda Comes to the iPhone

Nintendo may not be bringing Zelda to the iPhone anytime soon, but developer Audio Attack has done it for them. The company’s official site says it develops “Attack Touch Apps.” Several Audio Attack games available in the App Store are clearly based on existing franchises, ranging from Zelda to Call of Duty. Each game costs 99 cents and features a static character jumping vertically across various platforms, similar to the gameplay of Doodle Jump. In Ultimate iZelda Climb, Link...

The New Wii Fatal Frame Still Exists

Posted by on Oct 11, 2011 | Leave a Comment

You may remember, a month and a half ago, when Tecmo and Nintendo introduced a new game in the Fatal Frame series…sort of. Shinrei Camera, a 3DS title that uses the system’s AR hardware and a pack-in notebook to simulate real-life horror, is due out sometime in the future in Japan…but what about the new Wii Fatal Frame project, first announced way back last year? According to Famitsu, the game — which was last mentioned at a Nintendo shareholder conference last summer —...

The newest addition to the plethora of mini-game collections on the Wii comes in the form of Go Vacation, developed by Namco. In the meantime, check out some of the things Go Vacation has to offer that should get gamers who are sick of seeing lackluster mini-game compilations a reason to get excited. Wii Sports Resort Meets Grand Theft AutoNo, you won’t...

Analyst: Wii U ’Not Quite Next Generation’

Posted by on Oct 11, 2011 | Leave a Comment

Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter still has a lot of questions about the Wii U. In a new interview with Industrygamers, Pachter says he believes the system is in a unique position in the market. “The Wii U is a pretty ambitious undertaking. It’s a new console, with new controls and architecture, but it’s not quite ’next’ generation,” he said. “Developers have to contend with differences between the Wii U and current generation consoles, then have...

The new model of Wii headed to Europe will also make it to North America later this month. Nintendo of America has announced plans to launch a new black bundle that features the smaller system, which is designed to lay on its side and lacks GameCube support. The bundle consists of the new system and a Wii Remote plus — both in black — and a copy of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, which Nintendo says has sold 20 million units worldwide. Additionally, the bundle packs in a special Super Mario...

Brock Lesnar Joins WWE ’12

Brock Lesnar is returning to the WWE – in video game form. THQ has confirmed to me that Lesnar, who hasn’t been seen in a wrestling ring in over seven years, will be the final character in the game’s main roster. “It’s one of those things where… it’s part of my history. Without the WWE, I probably wouldn’t be where I am today,” Lesnar told me via e-mail. “I wouldn’t have the high visibility, I wouldn’t have had the leverage...

Nintendo has announced a new holiday Wii bundle for release in the US. The bundle will include a black Wii system, Nunchuk and Wii Remote Plus along with a copy of New Super Mario Bros. Wii. In addition, a special Super Mario Galaxy soundtrack CD will be included, “which includes a selection of memorable music from the acclaimed video game.” The CD will only be available in the bundle and will not be sold separately. Based on the cover image, this appears to be the same CD released to...

Just Dance 3 Review

Posted by on Oct 11, 2011 | Leave a Comment

Dance games, at their best, can be perfect examples of videogames at their purest and most universal. Like Pac-Man, like Space Invaders, like Guitar Hero, you don’t need to know anything at all about games to enjoy Just Dance. All you really need to understand is the title. You don’t even need to be a good dancer – what matters isn’t whether you’ve got killer moves, but whether you actually like to dance. If you don’t (what is wrong with you?), then Just Dance...
