Shigeru Miyamoto turns 59 today. Why does this matter? Because over half of his life has been spent creating timeless gaming experiences for the world to enjoy. The original Super Mario Bros. got a whole generation addicted to gaming with its unique, groovy platforming, and The Legend of Zelda continually set the standard for what an adventure title was capable of. Miyamoto is responsible for giving the world Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Star Fox and Pikmin, and has made countless other contributions...

On the eve of The Legend of Zelda’s 25th anniversary, Nintendo development head Shigeru Miyamoto takes a look back at Skyward Sword — a game that took he and his team five years to complete — and admits that development wasn’t the smoothest of processes. “It’s occasionally the case during game development that the project doesn’t proceed along as planned or doesn’t turn out as fun as expected when you make it,” he told Famitsu magazine this...

The last time the IGN Nintendo team gathered to discuss The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, we had just finished playing through a 9-hour demo of the game, taking us through the first two dungeons. Since then, a few things have happened… Audrey and I grabbed Sam, who has been feverishly working on the Skyward Sword Wiki, and Jose from 1Up, who thought Zelda was great, but was more tempered with his praise, giving the game a B+. Final Fantasy Producer Recognizes Action-RPG Trend

In an interview with Edge, Square Enix Producer Yoshinori Kitase recognizes the trend in RPGs moving away from classic turn-based systems. “I think the nature of the franchise is to present something new each time,” Kitase told Edge. “In the global market we see many players moving away from games that used turn-based systems toward what you might term an action-RPG.
