Earlier this week, we here at IGN Nintendo reached out to our amazing community, asking you readers to blog it up with your thoughts on Wii U pricing and what it would take to make you drop the cash for the new system. As always, you folks didn’t disappoint, flooding our social feeds with tons of great thoughts and ideas. We read more blog entries than we can even count, but at this point it’s nearly impossible to read every submission. Still we tried our absolute hardest to get to the...

Nintendo Wii Game News: EA Server Shutdowns Imminent For Burnout Revenge, MMA, Others

Posted by on Mar 19, 2012 | Leave a Comment

Electronic Arts is going to be shutting down the multiplayer servers and online services for a number of its online-enabled games on April 13, 2012, including one which uses the publisher’s controversial Online Pass. That game is EA Sports MMA, released on October 19, 2010, though the most recently released title on the list — Spare Parts — was out on January 11. The statement on EA’s Online Service Updates page is pretty clear about why these shutdowns happen: "…as...

Posted by on Mar 16, 2012 | Leave a Comment

Following the huge fan-driven uproar over Xenoblade Chronicles initially not coming to North America, Nintendo finally announced the game would be making its way stateside on April 6. It’s a huge win for the system, which later this year will be stepping aside to make way for Nintendo’s next generation of home consoles, Wii U. But why should you care? It’s a good question, with some good answers. Below are a handful of reasons why you should take the time (and spend the money) to...

Unreal Engine Can ’Do More’ than Zelda on Wii U

Posted by on Mar 12, 2012 | Leave a Comment

Epic vice president Mark Rein has high hopes for the Wii U. Speaking at last week’s Game Developers Conference, Rein told Eurogamer that he believes Nintendo’s new console will do quite well. “I like the Wii U. I think E3 will be a big eye-opener for people,” Rein said. “It’s a great brand that a lot of parents really trust and they’re probably ready to buy their kids an HD Wii that does that much more than just being an HD Wii. I’d love it if they’d...

Making Mario Magic – The Interview

One of the highlight’s of this year’s Game Developer’s conference was Super Mario 3D Land director Koichi Hayashida’s surprisingly stirring Thinking in 3D panel. Following his presentation, I had a chance to sit down with Hayashida-san and go into more detail about the development of Super Mario 3D Land and Super Mario Galaxy 2, whether there will be a 3D Land sequel, if he’s more like Mario or Luigi, and more. Here’s what he had to say… IGN: What about...

IGN AU Pubcast Ep. 40: A Threesome of Threequels

Posted by on Mar 11, 2012 | Leave a Comment

The Pubcast team enters the naughty forties and sets its collective sights on 2012’s biggest threequels. In this episode we discuss the rampant homophobia surrounding the release of Mass Effect 3, the Euphoria-powered gun-porn of Max Payne 3 and the freshly revealed American Revolution setting of Assassin’s Creed III. We’re certainly onboard with the idea of a Native American protagonist, who else is in… dian? Plus, opinion amongst the team is divided on the issue of publishers...

Mario Party 9 Review

Posted by on Mar 09, 2012 | Leave a Comment

Mario Party 9 is the best Mario Party since the series reached its heights in the early GameCube days (for the record, Mario Party 5 and Mario Party 6 are my favorites). But throughout its many generations, Mario Party has carried a fatal flaw, buried deep in its DNA: In spite of your proficiency at mini-games, or penchant for board game strategy, Mario Party is dictated by the dice roll. Randomness, which Mario Party 9 flaunts with a particularly annoying brand of euphoric abandon, ultimately ruins...
