Update: The page is now back online.
Original Story: The name of the next game in the Assassin’s Creed seems to have been leaked by an over-eager Facebook manager. Ubisoft indicated earlier this year that a new, non-3DS game was coming in 2011. Presumably referring to the same game, a message (which has since been removed) was posted on Facebook earlier today reading, “Assassins, the day you have been waiting for has arrived!!! Click the link below to help reveal an exclusive look...

It was Sony’s lawsuit against George Hotz that prompted hacker group Anonymous to wage war on Sony earlier this month. Anonymous might very well not have anything to do with the theft of PSN users’ personal information — it denies any involvement — but Sony’s litigiousness may have been what prompted the infiltration by hackers. If you thought there was any chance Hotz was somehow involved, think again.
“To anyone who thinks I was involved in any way with this,...

Today’s daily update on the PlayStation Network situation brings word that Sony is working with an unspecified law enforcement agency and a “recognized technology security firm to conduct a complete investigation.” The attack on PSN is being described as “malicious” and a “criminal act,” so in response Sony is “proceeding aggressively to find those responsible.”
In response to the outcry, Sony’s Patrick Seybold wrote on the PlayStation...

In a move that was entirely inevitable, what’s believed to be the first lawsuit against Sony over the PlayStation Network breach has been filed in California today. This comes one day after an admission that PSN users’ personal data (including, but not limited to, addresses, birthdates, and possibly credit card numbers) had been obtained by an unauthorized individual.
Cnet reports the lawsuit was filed on behalf of Birmingham, Alabama resident Kristopher Johns in the U.S. District Court...

Square Enix certainly doesn’t do anything by halves. Hot on the heels of the zillionth remake of Final Fantasy IV (via the Complete Collection for PSP) have come news and rumors that the company will be reissuing the subsequent 16-bit Final Fantasy games along with spiritual counterpart Chrono Trigger on a host of services. According to leaked ESRB ratings, Final Fantasy V will be coming to PSN (whenever that starts working again) while Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger are slated for...

One of the effects of the PlayStation Network downtime that began a week ago is Hulu Plus being inaccessible on PlayStation 3. As a premium service that users have to pay for, it’s perhaps a bigger loss than being unable to play games online. To make up for the lost time, Hulu is offering a $2.00 credit to Plus users on their next month’s bill.
Given that Hulu Plus can still be accessed on other devices, it’s rather generous of the company to offer anything at all, even if $2...

Sega’s Toshihiro Nagoshi is busy developing Binary Domain at the moment, taking a bit of a break from the Yakuza series he’s spearheaded. He can be forgiven if he wants to step away from Japanese gangster games for a little while — he’s created seven Yakuza games since the series debuted in 2005, after all. That’s a lot of back-alley knife fights and nights wasted chatting up girls at cabaret clubs.
For series producer Masayoshi Kikuchi, getting the first game off...

After a year or so of silence, tri-Ace — the veteran RPG developers behind the Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile series — has announced two brand-new titles. Unusually for the company, they’re both portable games, and for the first time, Konami is handling publication duties.
Frontier Gate, the first game announced, is a PSP title that’s best described as a turn-based version of Capcom’s Monster Hunter. You can control two characters at once, and up to three players...

The latest development in the PlayStation Network downtime situation has drawn the attention of a United States Senator. Among those upset with Sony over its handling of the ongoing PSN fiasco — which the company just announced today may have resulted in an unauthorized individual gaining access to users’ personal data — is Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal. In the wake of today’s news, the former Connecticut Attorney General has written a letter to Sony Computer Entertainment...

Update: An FAQ posted on the official PlayStation website offers up a few new details. It says the intrusion was discovered “between April 17 and April 19″ and the “correct course of action” regarding refunds will be decided upon once PSN is back online. It also acknowledged the Sony Online Entertainment service was unavailable at one point “due to an external attack;” in the meantime “a thorough investigation is ongoing.” It’s not clear if...
