Warning: PS3 firmware 4.45 is bricking systems

In the wake of firmware 4.45, a mandatory update that released on PlayStation 3 earlier this evening, we’re hearing hundreds of reports from PS3 users that installing the update is bricking their systems.
Specifically, after installing the update and rebooting the console, users are seeing the "ribbon" boot-up screen play endlessly without loading to the XMB. Restarting the console doesn’t help. Unplugging is required to get even that far, as pressing the power button apparently...

Tretton: PS4 won’t block used games because it ’creates value’ for the consumer

One of the biggest moments of celebration during Sony’s PlayStation press conference came when the company announced their PlayStation 4 would not block or hinder the sale or lending of used games. In a recent interview with Bloomberg, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America Jack Tretton said a used game "creates value" for the consumer.

Last week at E3 2013, I had the opportunity to speak with Dead or Alive 5 director Yohei Shimbori of Team Ninja about the upcoming iteration of his game, DOA5 Ultimate. When I asked him about a port of the game to the upcoming next-generation consoles, he hinted at such a possibility.

New Call of Duty: Black Ops II map pack revealed, brings improved ray gun and map remake

Call of Duty fans, it’s time to lace up those boots, cock those guns, and get back on the battlefield. A brand new Call of Duty map pack has been announced for Black Ops II, titled ’Vengeance"
The pack will include 4 maps, Cove, Detour, Rush, and Uplink, which is a reimagining of a fan favourite, Summit. And of course, there will be one zombie map, titled Buried. The new zombie map will introduce an improvement of the ray gun, which appears to shoot a three-round burst.

Last new PlayStation 2 game ever releasing this September

Though new games on the PlayStation 2 are few and far between, they soon will be coming to an end after over a decade of releases. Electronic Arts’ FIFA 14 will be the final title to be released on Sony’s hit console that launched back in the year 2000.
Japan already saw its last PS2 game release back in March with Final Fantasy XI expansion Seekers of Adoulin. Sony ceased manufacturing of the PS2 console worldwide this past January 4.

PS4 gameplay can be broadcast via Ustream profiles, says Ustream’s David Thompson

During a webcast discussing the marketing benefits of video streaming, Ustream SVP of Marketing David Thompson confirmed that PS4 gameplay can be streamed to outside platforms beyond the PS4 console itself.

PlayStation Universe is known for having outstanding and in-depth coverage of DUST 514. While a PlayStation Plus subscription will be required for online multiplayer on the PlayStation 4, it will not be required for many other functions thankfully. Speaking to VideoGamer.com, Sony confirmed a number of features that will not need PS Plus to work including online movie and TV streaming, social features, and the previously Plus-exclusive auto-update ability.

Rumor: Fallout 4 shown at E3, reveal due before next year’s show

Long-rumored RPG sequel Fallout 4 was reportedly given a behind-closed-doors showing at E3 last week.
That’s according to Bubblenews, which claims select members of the gaming press were given a glimpse at the post-apocalyptic outing courtesy of publisher Bethesda.
Fallout 4 apparently received a 37 second trailer at the Los Angeles-based convention, confirming locations such as Boston, Arlington Cambridge, Somerville and surrounding areas.
The game is set for an official reveal before E3 2014,...
