PS3 Game: Tony Hawk: RIDE

Posted by on Nov 17, 2009 | Leave a Comment

The in-game graphics in Tony Hawk: RIDE have a strange, gritty feel to them, especially in the menus, where it seems that RIDE sought to create its own personal “urban graffiti” style, primarily by overuse of “color burn” filters (for those familiar with Photoshop). The result is a sort of cartoon-ized over saturated video that gets points for style (or at least effort), if not for clarity. The style stays fairly consistent throughout the game. Sadly, the voices’ synching...

It’s that time again; time for the King of Iron Fist tournament, as Namco/Bandai’s Tekken 6 hits the ground rolling. The graphics have been tweaked from Tekken 5, making this the most beautiful installment in the series yet, with dynamic lighting features such as sun-shaft, glare and flare, along with depth of field effects and new shading systems that heighten the sense of realism. Afraid you’ll be lost? Missed the first 5 Tekken games, while you were building your dream house...

Modern Warfare Games Might Be Good For Kids!

So according to Fox News, playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 makes you a terrorist. This does more to prove the Obama administration’s assertion that Fox News isn’t really a news service than convince anyone that videogames are the equivalent of jihad. But Fox News isn’t the only so-called news service linking Modern Warfare to real-world events and calling the title out for its violence. The Toronto Star did it too, juxtaposing a Fort Hood update with the coverage of Modern...

PS2 Game: Band Hero

Band Hero is recognizable at a glance as being part of the Guitar Hero series of games. It has the same cartoon style and, for that matter, all of the familiar Guitar Hero characters, such as Lars Umlaut, Judy Nails and Izzy Sparks. In general, Band Hero is visually geared towards a more “Pop” scene, and the venues reflect this. The music in Band Hero includes 65 different songs which are more “mainstream” than the typically guitar-heavy songs that come in Guitar Hero games....

PS2 Game: MotorStorm Arctic Edge

Wow. PlayStation 2. It’s been a while since I’ve played a game on the PS2, proper. When my (late) original PS3 was still with us, I would play PS2 games on it and at least smooth out the graphics a bit. The PS2 is definitely a “last-generation” system, and the graphics in MotorStorm Arctic Edge show it. That having been said, the graphics aren’t bad for the PS2; it’s just hard to go back to the PS2 after you’ve played games on the PS3. Mind you, for MotorStorm...
