Jetpack Joyride Might Already be Facebook’s Best Game

Posted by on May 11, 2012 | Leave a Comment

As much fun as I have with many of the iOS games I play, there are few which I stick with for very long. In some cases that’s because the free or $0.99 entry point for these games have a direct correlation with the amount of depth they contain — there’s one good idea, but it’s not necessarily something you’ll want to spend more than a few hours with. Jetpack Joyride is a straightforward auto-runner, hardly the sort of thing that I would expect to play for long. And...

Blizzard Entertainment and Valve have announced that the two gaming giants have reached an agreement regarding the use of the DOTA name. In the settlement, Blizzard will be able to retain the non-commercial use of the DOTA name with regard to consumer-created maps for Warcraft III and Starcraft II. "Both Blizzard and Valve recognize that, at the end of the day, players just want to be able to play the games they're looking forward to, so we're happy to come to an agreement that helps...

Republique’s Success Demonstrates How a Kickstarter Can Adapt

Posted by on May 11, 2012 | Leave a Comment

It may have cut it close, but Camouflaj’s debut title, Republique, managed to reach its Kickstarter goal in the final hours before its deadline today. The project kicked off a month ago seeking $500,000 and, after an initial surge of pledges, found itself struggling to attract backers. Rather than accept the fact that there was not half a million dollars out there to fund a hardcore iOS title like this, Camouflaj adapted and now finds itself padding that $500,000 with additional pledges ahead...

Valve and Blizzard have ordered their legal teams to heel and come to a mutual agreement over the rights to the DOTA name. The studios announced today that Valve has dibs on the use of DOTA commercially, while Blizzard can keep calling its noncommercial Warcraft III mods DOTA. In other words, nothing changed. Well, except for one thing: Blizzard DOTA is dead. Long live Blizzard All-Stars! In a brief joint statement, Blizzard and Valve said they are both pleased to settle their DOTA dispute. “Both...

Today marks the PC release of bafflingly-titled competitive arena shooter Nexuiz. It started life as a modest mod, and now the baby’s left home and moved in with the commercial release crowd. Read on for further details on the PC version of Nezwix – Neuwiz – no, Niz – oh, sigh, why is this name so hard to type correctly? At least nobody’s forcing me to say it out loud in front of an audience. I haven’t a clue where to begin trying to pronounce that. For this new...

To brighten the day further, Max Payne 3’s Arcade Modes have also been revealed. “Max Payne 3 will not use Games For Windows Live,” Rockstar Games said via their official Twitter account, as noted by PC Gamer. Preview: Pros and Cons of The Secret World

Posted by on May 11, 2012 | Leave a Comment

Funcom opened The Secret World to the press this week, so I donned my tinfoil hat and began to pull at the threads of conspiracy as a new Templar recruit. We’ve seen these early areas in our last Secret World preview, but after three solid days of monster hunting and clue tracking with my own character, I’ve got a much better feel for what this modern-day fantasy MMORPG has to offer. Here’s a broader breakdown of its strengths and weaknesses to help you decide whether this interesting...
