Nintendo has repeatedly promised that Mario’s first 3DS adventure would show off what the system is really made of, cementing it as a truly unique and capable platform. The incredible part? The company actually delivered. 3D gaming has never been fully realized before this.
Where’s the Super Mario 3D Land Video Review?
As the first 3DS title to actually use 3D as an integral part of the gameplay experience, 3D Land’s platforming relies heavily on the precision leant by the 3D effect....

You may have already read about Ubisoft’s unprecedented deal with Sony Pictures to make the Assassin’s Creed movie. The news of this arrangement sent shockwaves not only through Hollywood, but through the gaming industry as well. Such is the topic of this week’s Sessler’s Soapbox. Do game companies need to have this much control over their intellectual properties to make sure they’re not ruined by the movie making process? Or is this just an example of an incredibly...

Nintendo has revealed that a 25th anniversary limited edition black and gold 3DS will arrive in Europe in time for Christmas.

For the most part, people just sort of chuckled when they saw that Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike was hired to direct a feature film based loosely on the first game in the Phoenix Wright video game series. Then this ridiculous and remarkably faithful trailer came along to save the day.
The above minute-and-a-half-long trailer is all in Japanese, but it speaks the universal language of visual references. If you’ve played a Phoenix Wright game before, or even just seen video...

Set for release in Japan in February next year, the Ace Attorney movie is gearing up for a three month marketing blitz. Directed by Takashi Miike (Dead or Alive; Ichi the Killer) Gyakuten Saiban as it’s called in Japan is, according to the trailer, set in a dystopian near-future Japan where a stressed criminal justice system has limited trials to three days with a presumption of guilt unless proven otherwise.
The trailer is filled with scenery and words that fans of the series will instantly...

Series producer Eiji Aonuma has confirmed that an all-new Zelda is in development for the Nintendo 3DS. Aonuma says the game will be closer to console games than to previous DS Zelda titles.
“We are already preparing a new game, a game in the series for the Nintendo 3DS, but don’t think that it is a direct sequel to the Zelda titles released on DS,” he told Portugese site MyGames. “We are talking about a new game, but it takes much of what has been done on previous consoles.”
According...

Who remembers the NES classic Balloon Fight? Probably lots of you, seeing as how it was just re-released for the 3DS two months ago as part of Nintendo’s Ambassador Program. But, OK, who remembers its Game Boy sequel Balloon Kid then? Probably not nearly as many. And that’s a shame, since Balloon Kid is a solid little adventure game. Thankfully, it too is back courtesy of the 3DS starting today.
Balloon Kid isn’t just an arcade action title like its predecessor – this time...

Cut the Rope is a certified smash hit that is finally making its way to a Nintendo platform after debuting about a year ago on Apple’s iPhones and iPads. It’s a slick game. A purely addictive little touch screen puzzler where your goal is to, as the title says, cut ropes in each stage to get a colorful piece of candy to drop into the waiting, open maw of the always-grinning and ever-delightful little monster Om Nom.
When the game first begins, the puzzles you’re challenged with...

This is the latest DSiWare game from Zordix, the studio that previously brought us Valet Parking 1989. Like that last game, this one pairs a bygone era with a thankless job to create a fun gameplay scenario. Unlike the last one, though, this release doesn’t manage to elevate its choice of activity to feeling like anything more than a chore.
1950s Lawnmower Kids puts you in charge of a trio of children looking to earn a little extra cash by cutting grass in the summer of 1955. You direct their...

I’m going to keep this one really short, since anyone who’s previously read my thoughts on House M.D. — Episode 2: Blue Meanie or House M.D. — Episode 3: Skull and Bones should be able to predict where this fourth installment is headed. Yes (shockingly!) it’s more of the same.
Dr. House is still grumpy and cracking characteristic jokes, there’s another medical mystery to be solved and a scattering of different, basic, casual touch-screen games to play as the team...
