New Super Mario Bros. 2 Announced

After revealing it was working on a new 2D Mario project for the Nintendo 3DS earlier this year, Nintendo has finally given that game a name – New Super Mario Bros. 2. The platformer is due to be released in both Japan and North America in August 2012. The publisher released no concrete details about the game outside of four screenshots. The most important bit of information? The Power Leaf, and Raccoon Mario, are returning. Additionally a quote from Nintendo’s Facebook page has revealed... 

What IGN Readers Want from Super Mario 4

Last week we laid down four possibilities for Super Mario 4. The choices we outlined included a true, 8-bit sequel to the Super Mario Bros. games, a 3D platformer, a new Super Mario World game and Super Mario 4 Wii U. At the end of the article, we asked you readers to cast a vote in our poll and tell us which of these options you most want this still unconfirmed Mario game to be. UPDATE: New Nintendo Direct Coming Tonight

UPDATE (11:50AM): Clues have sprouted up as to what tonight’s Nintendo Direct broadcast might include. Kid Icarus Uprising director Masahiro Sakurai took to Twitter, hinting to his followers that they can expect news pertaining to the recently released Uprising from tonight’s video. Theatrhythm Final Fantasy news might also be on the way, as Masanobu Suzui, head of developer Indies Zero, urged his followers not to miss the broadcast. Finally, a swapnote was sent to Japanese 3DS systems...

Square Enix has revealed the North American pre-order bonus for Theatrhythm Final Fantasy – the 3DS exclusive rhythm game featuring music from the franchise’s long history, as well as Chibi depictions of beloved characters like Cloud and Squall. Gamers who reserve their copies in advance will receive a gripped stylus and 17 stickers to customize it with, pictured below.
