Slingo Supreme Review

The final DSiWare release of 2011 is a new version of a game design that’s been around since about 1995. “Slingo” came about as one of the Internet’s first casual-play browser games way back in that age of dial-up access and 14.4 modems, combining the random chance of a slot machine with the five-by-five number grid of bingo. That slots/bingo fusion is still fueling Slingo today — and this latest edition adds in some Supreme extras. The game is largely luck-based, as...

For the last Nintendo Download update of the year, the company didn’t hold back. While there isn’t a lot to be had for Wii owners, 3DS owners have two new releases to look forward to. The first of these is VVVVVV, an old-school, indie platformer originally released for computers in early 2010. This is the first time it has appeared on a platform other than PC or Mac, though it’s not because the game wasn’t worthy of a port. It’s not designed for those looking for...

Myst! It may not be the ORIGINAL PC adventure game (or anything even close to that), but it IS a wildly popular one from a time when CD-ROMs were still considered a new teechnology (CD-ROM being the computer disc-thing that existed before DVD). The game has been ported to numerous platforms since its 1993 release, and now Hoplite Research, the developer behind the previous Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable ports, is hard at work on a 3DS version of the game. A press release confirms that Maximum...

Mighty Switch Force Review

WayForward’s weirdos are at it again. These demented minds have already unleashed downloadable madness upon Nintendo fans thrice before – with the adventures of a belly-dancing half-genie, a dimension-flipping wizard and a planet-smashing alien girl – and DSi owners have loved every minute of each one. Shantae: Risky’s Revenge, Mighty Flip Champs and Mighty Milky Way set the high bar for quality on DSiWare, and in so doing also set players’ expectations high for what...
