PS3 Game News: Call Of Duty Tactical Game Prototype Video Unearthed

Posted by on Apr 20, 2012 | Leave a Comment

Call of Duty is not a series that is known for its strong tactical focus on warfare, and yet that’s the sort of game that Vicarious Visions was working on, as we see in a newly unearthy prototype video. The look at the canceled game comes courtesy of animator Steve Nelson’s personal website by way of Twitter’s Supererogatory. Nelson’s website appears to be down right now, probably because the collective weight of the Internet is crushing in on it for a glimpse at the canned,...

Valve and Apple did not have a sitdown, despite recent reports to the contrary. Gabe Newell confirmed as much in a new interview for the just-released Seven Day Cooldown podcast (via Kotaku). Reports emerged on April 14, 2012 that Cook had been spotted at Valve HQ in Bellevue, Washington. But that’s just not the case, Newell revealed. Here’s his statement on the matter in full: We actually, we all sent mail to each other, going, ’Who’s Tim Cook meeting with? Is he meeting...

Who We Think Kratos Should Kill in God of War: Ascension

Posted by on Apr 19, 2012 | Leave a Comment

After slaughtering the entire pantheon Gods, a plethora of ancient heroes, and a whole zoo of mythological creatures in three God Of War console titles and two handheld games, there are only so many enemies left that Kratos can rip the head from in his newest adventure, God of War: Ascension. As we all know, Ascension looks back at Krato’s younger years before he became the bloodthirsty, badass that he is today. But this also means that the Gods, heroes, and creatures he meets in the new game...

Ron Paul Video Game Is On The Way

From the depth of Kickstarter, we’ve learned that a Ron Paul video game is on the way. I’ve been trawling Kickstarter hardcore recently, and am overwhelmed with the sheer number of strange projects that people want to fund, from the mundane (this lady needs over $3,000 to make decorate candle wrappers) to the awesome (The Banner Saga: A Viking based strategy video game) to the really, really stupid (This guy wants $30,000 to develop a tin-can phone that connects to your cellphone), but...

Why The Halo Movie Didn’t Happen

Posted by on Apr 19, 2012 | Leave a Comment

Way back in 2005, Microsoft made a serious play to create a blockbuster, tentpole Halo movie. The author of 28 Days Later was paid a million bucks to write a script. Fox and Universal were working with Microsoft to put it together. Denzel Washington was rumored to be interested in starring as Master Chief. Everyone was predicting huge things… Seven years later, the Halo flick is dead and buried. What happened? While we’ve covered the surface of the various vicious Hollywood politics...

From Mother to Mass Effect – Creating A Better RPG

Though Japanese RPGs have a firm template in place for how each release from that stable should be approached, Western RPGs have always been scattershot. Isometric visions of apocalyptic wastelands, sprawling high fantasy tales rife with warring factions, and even the gambles that mimic a J-RPG, right down to the party’s mannerisms and four-disc spread of content – remember PlayStation’s Shadow Madness? All the different approaches, however, do not necessarily demonstrate that...

Updating Your Console Could Help Save The Planet

Posted by on Apr 19, 2012 | Leave a Comment

Updating your console could help conserve energy. As you might know, this is "green week" at G4, where we all work together to help out the environment, so listen: According to a recent study, most of the energy your game console consumes is used when it’s idle. Roughly 68 percent of all energy consumed by game consoles in 2010 was spent during idle time. In one year, we’ve wasted 10.8 TWh of energy — or roughly $1.24 billion. The 360 has an auto shut-off feature, but...
